Amazon Pan-European FBA: VAT obligations in each country

Amazon's Pan-European FBA programme spreads your stock across warehouses in Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Poland and the Czech Republic to cut delivery times. But there is an important tax consequence: storing goods in another EU country means registering for VAT in that country.

Why do I need a VAT number in each country?

When Amazon moves your stock to, say, Germany, the sales shipped from that German warehouse to German customers count as domestic sales in Germany. You must invoice with German VAT (19%) and file periodic returns with the German tax authority.

How many registrations do I need?

It depends on where Amazon stores your stock. Registrations in 4-6 countries are typical. Our EkonYou division handles all the registrations and monthly returns in each jurisdiction.

What happens if I don't register?

Fines for undeclared sales in the country of storage, surcharges and late-payment interest. Amazon may also suspend your account if it detects tax non-compliance.

EkonYou handles VAT registrations in the 6 FBA countries. Request a quote.
